The Old Countryhouse Backpackers is an Award Winning hostel in Christchurch and has been top-rated since 2002. We are looking for someone who can help not only maintain our excellent rating but have the ability and drive to increase it, too.

We are looking for someone who is a natural born leader with excellent knowledge of the ins and outs of managing the day to day running of our busy medium size Boutique Style Backpackers Hostel. You are an 'upbeat person' and your customer service is amazing, you can get along with every living person and you will turn all of our guests into raving mad fans! You are an excellent organizer and have a keen eye for detail and accuracy. You are able to work flexible days and you have a fun and positive attitude. You are bursting with energy and ideas on how to create, maintain and have a fun time at work and you are able to organize and lead social events and activities well!

This is a varied and challenging 'hands-on' role for a passionate customer service and sales focused individual who has a proven ability to promote positive guest experiences to ensure the highest standard of guest satisfaction.

You will form an important part of our Leadership Team and be expected to contribute to all aspects of our business. Responsibility, honesty and reliability are paramount as you will be in sole charge.  Naturally, we are looking for someone who reflects the integrity, respect, excellence and passion that we embody.

Our ideal candidate will be a people manager who leads by example, compels others to excel with their targets and thrives on providing exceptional customer service with excellent and accurate administration and professional communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Yourself: You are well known for your smile and your positive outlook on life, and for going the extra mile to make a difference.  You are motivated and structured in organising and prioritizing your work load, paying great attention to detail, taking pride in your work, using loads of initiative and are committed to having fun at work every day. A 'can do' attitude with the willingness to take a 'hands on' approach to a variety of tasks including maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Cash Management and Computer operations MS Word and Excel is a MUST
  • Previous experience in maximising revenue streams including using online distribution and social media networks and channels
  • Ability to build relationships within local communities, businesses and networking groups easily
  • Innovative approach to maximise profitability and to ensure high service standards
  • Practical or handyman skills would be very advantageous
  • It would be a tremendous advantage if you can speak (and communicate in writing to business level) in another European or Asian language fluently
  • A clean full drivers licence is essential

 

Duties include:

  • The daily running of our busy reception including answering the phone, taking reservations, check-ins and check-outs, computer operations, guest services, money management and cash reconciliation, training/supervising staff, managing bookings and payments, helping guests with enquiries and offering advice and information, booking activities, responding to emails and telephone queries
  • Training, managing, supporting and assisting the cleaning staff, keeping communal areas and hostel grounds tidy and spotless at all times
  • Solving problems and dealing efficiently with anything and everything that might come up! This role will involve weekend and public holiday work as required.
  • Exploring avenues to exceed the forecasted occupancy revenues in rooms by maximising yield management opportunities including online booking and social media networks
  • Managing and driving a fun filled sales oriented front office
  • Budgeting, forecasting and business planning
  • Accurate financial bookkeeping and reporting
  • Have bucket loads of fun in whatever you are doing
