About the role:

We are an internationally renowned Indian restaurant chain specialising in authentic Indian vegetarian cuisine. We have now decided to set up our very first restaurant in Auckland and require five chefs who will look after our:


1.       South Indian Snacks & Masalas.

2.       South Indian Speciality.

3.       North Indian Dishes.

4.       South Indian Breads.

5.       Traditional Sweets and Chaat.

This is a permanent position and we will be seeking an applicant who has a minimum of 5 years' experience on any of the above specialities. For interested applicants, please indicate which speciality you wish to apply for.

This is a strictly cooking role and you will need to have proven track record. The applicant must show technical skills, offer creative input and offer team development.

Key responsibilities for the chefs:

*         Assist in developing menu and design recipes

*         Determine appropriate ingredient requirements and prepare supplies order

*         Ensure stock is ordered and equipment is maintained properly

*         Check quality of ingredients once received and notify Head Chef on any quality concerns

*         Prepare designated range of menu items according to recipes and within budget

*         Prepare, cook and preserve food

*         Test recipes, manage individual serving portion and estimate food cost for each portion in consultation with the Head Chef

*         Supervise kitchen employees on cooking procedures, and possibly train new apprentices

*         Schedule the work of cooks and other kitchen employees

*         Attend to any preparation issues with the Head Chef, kitchen and waiting employees

*         Ensure consistent quality and presented to the highest standards by monitoring the food when it's being prepared and presented

*         Develop new products and improve current product line

In addition to the above role, interested applicants have to show that they have proven track record on any of the following speciality:

South Indian Snacks and Masalas

*         Supervising and preparing authentic South Indian snacks such as murukku, ribbon pakoda, thattai and other snacks and savouries

South Indian Speciality

*         Supervising and preparing different specialty South Indian dishes such as Sambar (more than five varieties), Rasam and vegetable side dishes that forms a part of a wholesome traditional South Indian meal (also known as South Indian Thali)


North Indian Dishes

*         Preparing base sauces for North Indian dishes

*         Supervising and preparing different special Indo Chinese and North Indian dishes such as Fried Rice, Noodles and North Indian breads such as Roti, Naan and other North Indian curries


South Indian Breads

*         Preparing and making South Indian bread and mixing ingredients for particular style of bread and dough kneading

*         Preparing authentic South India bread varieties of dosas and uthappams

*         High level of experience in preparing various bread stuffing

*         Knowledgeable about mini tiffin


Traditional Sweets and Chaat

*         Supervising and preparing halwas, payasams and milk

*         Supervising and preparaing dry fruit sweets and chaat items such as Pani Poori, Bhel Poori, Dhai Papdi Chaat, Samosa Chaat

These roles are for Chefs that are legally entitled to live and work in New Zealand.
