Seeking a new Bean Counter – Accountant

Here at Croys we specialise in accountancy for small to medium sized entities from varied sectors including significant farming community and commercial clients. We are one of the largest professional services firms in Ashburton, Mid Canterbury. We have a small, hardworking, community-focused and close-knit team, many of whom have been with Croys for years, yet we have a modern office and are very open to flexible working solutions for our staff.
About the role:
We believe an accountant is more than just a provider of financial reports and tax calculations. To us it's about finding solutions and making sure that they work in our clients' best interests. It's about supporting our clients and watching their businesses grow. You will have responsibility for assisting a portfolio of clients in this way (ideally from both commercial and farming sectors, though there is some flexibility here).
Your responsibilities:
- Preparing financial statements, including monthly and annual accounts for clients
- Preparing work using client accounting systems such as Xero, Banklink, Quickbooks, MYOB, etc as required
- Advising clients on tax issues and tax
- Preparing tax returns including, GST, PAYE, FBT
- Liaising directly with clients to respond to queries or provide information or advice, as requested
- Shares information and knowledge willingly with all team members
- Assisting Managers with reviewing files as requested
Skills and experience:
- You must be solution and client focused
- You must be organised, effective and efficient
- Some experience in an Accounting role is preferred but not essential
- Qualification as an Accounting Technician is not essential – we can provide the necessary training and supervision to attain such qualification
- You must have software knowledge in any or all of these packages (MYOB, Acct Office; Excel; CCH i-firm, Xero and Banklink)
- Farm accounting experience would be an advantage
