We are seeking ‘Know Your Midwife’ case-loading midwives to provide continuity of care to Oamaru women and their whanau/families.
Our midwives will have capped caseloads and a MERAS MECA salary and with MERAS safe staffing levels for rural midwives. Full and part time positions no less than 0.5FTE are available. New graduate midwives are also welcome to apply.
Oamaru Maternity Centre is a rural midwifery led primary birthing unit with 2 birthing rooms, a birthing pool and 3 postnatal rooms. We also have 2 antenatal clinic rooms. Our midwives are supported by experienced Enrolled Nurses.
We currently have a 30 % primary birthing unit rate at Oamaru Maternity and approximately 10 % homebirth, both with excellent outcomes. We would love to increase this for our local community women. We provide midwifery care to around 240 women per year.
All kit is provided, e.g. car, petrol , pager , phone and midwifery gear. When necessary we transfer to Queen Mary in Dunedin for secondary care where we hand over to core staff and return to Oamaru with the ambulance.
There is a monthly obstetric clinic in Oamaru with a consultant from Dunedin.
