About the business
Children's Autism Foundation (CAF) is a Charitable Trust providing whanau/family support services to families of children on the Autism Spectrum, from pre-diagnosis up to 21 years of age. Services include Outreach (individual family support), community workshops on various autism topics and Social Skills programmes for children and their families. We also provide professional development workshops for those working with children who are on the Autism Spectrum.
Our vision is for children with autism to have rewarding and meaningful lives within their families and the community, now and in the future.
About the role
We are looking for an energetic dedicated Family Consultant. The focus of the Family Consultant role is:
- Delivery of our Outreach programme to families who have children on the autism spectrum, in Central and West Auckland
- Facilitation of our Join In social skills programme for children and their parents
- Facilitation of our workshops for families and professionals on a range of autism related topics
- The role is part-time permanent 30 hrs/week, including occasional evenings and Saturdays for workshop delivery. You will also be expected to attend a fortnightly team meeting in Albany.
- Autonomous role, administration can be home-based and/or from our offices in Albany or Freemans Bay
- You will be part of a team of 5 family consultants, training and peer-support will be provided
Skills and experience
We require:
- A tertiary qualification in the field of humanities/social sciences such as speech language therapy/social work/psychology/occupational therapy/counselling
- Experience working with children who are on the Autism Spectrum
- Experience facilitating groups/delivering training
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Sensitivity and respect of cultural and ethnic diversity of families and a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
- Someone who can work alongside families, identifying priorities, setting goals and working towards constructive outcomes in a family centred model
- A current NZ drivers' license is essential
- Use of own car and willingness to drive around Auckland region (mileage is reimbursed)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, empathetic and enthusiastic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
