Kapiti Youth Support - KYS is a primary source of health and social support for more than 5400 young people aged 10 to 24 years within the Kapiti Coast District. (Approximately 76% of the Kapiti’s youth population). KYS adopts an integrated strength based approach, keeps the young person at the centre and acknowledges the young person’s context. 

KYS services include medical and nursing services, clinical psychology, counselling, alcohol and drug , social work, youth work, mentoring, parenting, peer support, transition to work, youth development and education programmes. Youth Services include supporting young people and young parents receiving a benefit and the 16 & 17 year old NEETS (Not in Education or Employment).

KYS is looking for a Youth Coach to join our dynamic, passionate interdisciplinary team. The successful applicant will be working within the Youth Services Team and at times may be required to undertake other duties or special projects as required by management. 

KYS currently provides MSD Youth Services within Kapiti; the Youth Coach role would be undertaking the work required to deliver this contract. 
The youth coach will work with young people aged 17 & 17 NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) who are disengaging from school and support them to reengage with education or training and help them transition into employment.
The youth coach also work with young people who are receiving a Work and Income benefit because the Young People (YP) are disengaged from their family or are a Young Parent (YPP) aged 16-19. Youth 

IDEAL PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
• Relevant tertiary qualification – this may be from a range of disciplines including: youth work, social work, community development, education, counselling
• Leadership and facilitation skills
• Ability to work as part of a team without direct supervision, committed to delivering a quality service.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication skills, at all levels while working to deadlines and several jobs concurrently
• Demonstrated ability to network with a wide range of community agencies
• Knowledge of current issues facing young people – particularly those from troubled and disadvantaged environments
• Innovative and ethos of practice that places a high value on youth development through participation, while demonstrating the ability to be non-judgemental
• An understanding of youth cultures and an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
• Demonstrated ability to practice from bi-cultural and multi-cultural perspective 
• Have an understanding of the HEADSSS assessment framework
• Commitment to and working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles
• Knowledge of social theory, ethical standards and practice
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing own professional/personal development, with the ability to be self-reflective
• Knowledge and understanding of the National Youth Workers Network Aotearoa Code of Ethics
• Knowledge and understanding of the CYFs Act (1989) and other relevant legislation
• A current and full driver’s license
• A good sense of humour

In order to be successful in this role you must also demonstrate a caring and empathetic attitude, the ability to effortlessly build rapport with young people, highly effective verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service. You must be well presented and professional at all times, have a friendly, bubbly and helpful personality, ability to work effectively within a team, flexible, well organised, demonstrate previous experience in similar roles and at least an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel. 
Hours of work are 40 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am and 5.30pm

Remuneration is negotiable dependent on qualifications, skills and experience $45,000-$65,000
