IHC is New Zealand's largest service provider for people with an intellectual disability. Support services are provided by over 4000 staff employed by IHC's subsidiary IDEA Services.

For us it is a significant time of change with work having been done across our services. At the heart of this work is making sure you have the resources and support you need to provide the quality service to people with intellectual disabilities and their families. We have a fundamental belief in the importance of the Service Manager position to support the effective delivery of a safe, high quality service.

We are looking to increase the number of Service Managers we employ along with making some key changes to enhance and develop this front-line management role including:

  • Less time in the office and more time out in services with staff and the people we support.
  • Establishment of a community of practice model that supports sharing of information and experiences, learning, personal and professional development
  • Changing work patterns/days of work/on-call to provide flexibility, and ensure hands on leadership provided by managers seven days per week.
  • The use of technology to reduce paperwork and support quality initiatives.
  • Better identification and management of key contributors to workload ensuring consistency in workload, accountability and expectations placed on the role
  • Responding to increasing service complexity through specialisation

The role:

As a Service Manager - Workforce, you will be responsible for providing appropriate day to day scheduling / rostering of staff, including planned and unplanned leave coverage within your area ensuring the delivery of service excellence and appropriate.

Key functions include:

  • Leadership and coaching; Monitoring and performance management; Recruitment; Training; Scheduling and Leave management; Relationship management; Quality Assurance; Taking a leadership role in implementing technology solutions within the services; Financial management; Health & Safety
  • Staff management of direct reports providing on-call, scheduling / rostering, workforce planning, leave management and administration services. This role does not have direct accountability for services or hands on staff. Hours will be based on the area coverage, and include 5 days across a 7 day week providing cover between 2:30pm and 10:30pm and 10:30pm to 6:30am
