Are you are person who can’t keep their head out of a book? Do you often find your imagination problem solving complex issues, even when not required? Are you a sleuth in disguise who loves to investigate potential risks and provide big picture and small picture solutions? More importantly, have you had lived experience accessing mental health and/or addiction services as a young person and would like to use that experience to improve health services? Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disabilities 3 DHB services (MHAIDS) provides specialist services to children and young people through-out the central region. These include Child and Adolescent mental Health services (CAMHS), Early Intervention Services (EIS) and a Regional Rangatahi Adolescent Inpatient service (RRAIS).

Since 2001 there has been requirement for consumers to be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation at every level of Mental Health services to ensure services are responsive to individuals. MHAIDS employs a team of consumer advisors who participate in service improvement initiatives through-out MHAIDs services. 

We are looking to employ a dedicated Consumer Advisor Strategist to join our Consumer Advisory team within Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disabilities services (MHAIDS) across the Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital & Coast District Health Board. As a Consumer Advisor your lived experience of mental health and/or addictions recovery, alongside your unique perspective accessing Youth MH&A services, will complement the diverse experiences and expertise of the team.

This is a permanent, part-time (0.8FTE / 32 hours per week) position based in Porirua.

The role will contribute to a wide range of strategic and quality improvement activities such as:

  •  Service delivery planning and service improvement projects
  •  Monitoring and Evaluation of service incidents/adverse events
  •  Participation in quality patient and service reviews
  •  Policy, data & research analysis
  •  Development of ‘Real Time’ feedback and participate in service evaluation projects

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in Social Sciences and/or Quality Assurance
  • Experience in research, policy and data analysis
  • Experience in preparing reports, proposals and narratives of the consumer experience
  • Can demonstrate ability to work across a wide cross section of government, community and consumer stakeholders
  • Can participate in and lead group projects, discussions and focus groups
  • Experience working with a diverse group of young people, clinical teams and community services.

Police and Child safety Vetting will be required.
