Our Cancer Psychological and Social Work Support team at Southland Hospital is looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist to join our multi-disciplinary team to provide a wide range of psychological services.

This role is part of a new initiative to improve access to psychological and social support services for adults with cancer. It is a rare and very exciting opportunity to be part of the team that develops and sets up the Psychological and Social Support team as per MOH specifications, and the guidelines, goals and philosophies of the Southern Cancer Network.

You will work closely with our clients, their family and whanau, providing advanced level assessment, intervention and evaluation of their health related difficulties, as well as provide clinical leadership for other staff in the region. As part of the role you will also work closely with other health professionals, organisations and stakeholders, including primary care practitioners and non-government organisations who have a supportive care function locally and regionally.

Candidates should be knowledgeable and experienced in working with complex needs clients and able to demonstrate excellent assessment, formulation, treatment planning and therapy skills. You will be a confident and effective communicator, bring a flexible approach with excellent organisational skills, be passionate about your work and hold an unwavering belief in people’s resilience in the face of an often unfavourable life crisis.
