Are you a fully qualified counsellor who is self-motivated and proactive, with a high level of initiative? Do you enjoy coaching and mentoring other counsellors to reach their potential?

This role will report to the Head of Community Services Development and oversees a team of counsellors who are committed to providing quality, professional and confidential counselling for a variety of clients at VisionWest’s Counselling Centre.

We are looking for a fully qualified counsellor who can assist individuals and families through personal discovery and growth. In additional to experience counselling in the areas of sexual abuse and trauma, you will have excellent management skills and can successfully lead, mentor and grow the team. The desired hours for this role are full-time but are negotiable for the right person.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A qualification in counselling, preferred at degree level from a NZ institution.
  • Full membership of NZAC or NZCCA
  • ACC accredited, preferred
  • Minimum 3 years proven experience working in a counselling practice
  • Knowledge of sector standards and the principles underpinning provision of counselling services, safety issues including client safety and worker safety, and demonstrated skills in crisis intervention.
  • A high level of interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills
  • A sensitivity to both client and counsellor issues
  • A non-judgemental and empathetic disposition
  • Effective time management/organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to work cooperatively with other health professionals, providers and organisations.
  • The ability to work effectively cross-culturally, and with a wide range of people.
  • A passion and enthusiasm for working with children, families and people.
