Pacific Counsellor and Health Promoter

Fixed Term Full Time – 12 month contract in Wellington

Do you have passion and a commitment to working with Pacific communities?

Do you have experience in mental health and addictions and want to create a positive impact for individuals and families?

Then this opportunity will be for you.  We are now looking for a dynamic new member to join our Wellington team to cover maternity leave for 12 months starting in October.

At Mapu Maia, we provide an effective and culturally appropriate addiction service to our Pacific communities in the Wellington region. Our integrated public health and clinical service currently provides support to Pacific families and community agencies in Auckland, Wellington and the Christchurch region.

The successful candidate will provide a holistic service to assist individuals and families in reaching their goals. In addition, you will be working alongside community groups, social services and government agencies to build collaborative relationships and raise awareness of gambling harm in the community.

We are looking for a dedicated person who has a counselling or social work qualification and who enjoys public health projects in the Pacific community.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required along with a good level of computer literacy. A strong commitment to the team and a sense of humour is essential.

Experience in working with Pacific communities is vital for this role and fluency in a Pacific Island language is desired.

This role is for 40 hours per week and is based in our Wellington office.

This position requires a graduate qualification from a New Zealand recognised tertiary institution in counselling, applied mental health sciences, psychotherapy, social work or nursing.

If you want to make a difference by working to achieve healthy communities, we want to hear from you.  Applications will close Friday 10th August 2018.
