We need your help!
New Zealand now has more than 6,300 children and young people in care at any one time.
They need someone like you, someone outside of the system to listen to them and stand alongside of them so that they are heard.
We are looking for Youth Workers or other professionals (Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Councillors) with experience in working with children and youth to join the Kaiwhakamana team at VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai.
Kaiwhakamana work to enhance the mana of care experienced children and young people (Tamariki Atawhai) so they may reach their full potential. They contribute to the pursuit of whanau oranga working from a systems perspective.
This work includes equipping and empowering Tamariki Atawhai with a range of skills (e.g., problem-solving, communication), and supporting and enabling positive relationships with trusted adults from their whānau and/or community.
Kaiwhakamana will also work to inform and influence systems like Oranga Tamaki, government policy and other organisations such as schools regarding common themes, strengths and needs that emerge from this intensive work.
You need to be a great communicator! You will need to be flexible in your availability to work with and meet with our Tamariki Atawhai and their significant others. This could be in the afternoon or evenings. Sometimes young people would rather connect online or over the phone, so you'll need to be pretty good with computers, other technology and digital tools.
You need to be good at building trusted relationships with children and young people (and adults!) from a range of ages, cultures, ethnicities and abilities.
Most importantly, you need to be a great listener. You understand how important it is for children and young people in care to be heard and respected as individuals, and as a wider collective.
This role is currently based in Mt Eden but is likely to move to South Auckland later in the year.
