Under the management of Auckland UniServices Ltd, the University of Auckland's Liggins Institute has been conducting the NiPPeR Study over the last 5 years. NiPPeR is a large international, multi-centre double-blind randomised controlled trial (RCT) in groups of women from different ethnic groups in the UK, Singapore and New Zealand. The primary objective of the clinical trial is to determine the effect of a nutritional drink, taken preconception and during pregnancy, on the maintenance of healthy glucose metabolism during pregnancy with the goal of promoting maternal and offspring wellbeing.
We are seeking a smart, skilled and flexible Research Assistant to undertake a wide range of tasks crucial to the efficient running of the NiPPeR trial. You will be involved in many aspects of the project primarily supporting research nurses conduct participant clinic visits and related administration, but will also have opportunities to develop your skills further in laboratory work, biobanking, data collection and data cleaning.
This busy and varied role will involve all of the following, and may evolve as the needs of the project change over time, so flexibility is essential:
- Pre- and post-clinic visit procedures including maintenance of equipment and room preparation
- Ensure participant visit is a streamlined, relaxed experience, by providing customised, friendly interaction with mothers, babies and toddlers
- Assist team in bio sample collection, processing of samples and their correct storage
- Assist team with routine biobanking and scheduled mass biobank extractions
- Data entry and cleaning
- Scheduling clinic and home visits for participants, including confirmations and reminders
- Administrative support
If you have admin experience, good communication skills, laboratory experience, sound computer skills and the ability to work in a diverse multi-disciplinary team, we would welcome your application. Previous experience within clinical trials/research and processing samples would be an advantage.
