About the business and the role

With awareness and reporting of suspected elder abuse increasing, we seek an experienced social worker, nurse or other professional to join our team of Waikato wide responders.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Age Concern delivers the Elder Abuse Response Service in accordance with its contract with Ministry of Social Development. 

This 32 to 35 hours a week (negotiable) role involves working within the Age Concern team and a network of health and community based social service providers to respond to notifications of suspected cases of elder abuse, which come in through web and telephone based contacts, self referrals, family, neighbour and friend referrals as well as internal sources.

No two cases are the same; no two days are the same, except every day is rewarding.. 

We need you to draw upon your vast talents and experience to negotiate with clients, families, service providers and other interested parties to help vulnerable older people away from neglect (including self-neglect) or abuse situations, to where their health and safety are improved.

Within the Age Concern team, we have staff at Hamilton, Thames, South Waikato, Otorohanga and points in between. This is a semi-leadership role of the other individuals who work across the Waikato. Nationally, Age Concern has established safe practices to work within and a national team to regularly exchange information with and network with also.

Skills and experience

We seek experienced social work or other professionals with at least three years experience to deliver our service.

You will need to have a recognised social work, nursing degree or level 6 Diploma as strongly preferred qualifications evidencing your training for this role, along with registration preferred.

We need you to be a team player at all times.

A clean car drivers license is required, as daily travel in supplied cars is likely.

You will need to undergo a Ministry of Justice clearance which must show no result.
