Social Navigator / Support worker – 20h/week; 0.5FTE Whakatane

Our Organisation

Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Service (BOPSASS) provides a professional, well-co-ordinated medical service for the assessment and treatment of those who have been affected by sexual abuse or assault.  Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Service also provides a wraparound service in the form of counselling and social work support.

Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Service aims to provide a positive and encouraging working environment where all staff are passionate about assisting clients and their families to positively move forward in their recovery.  A high degree of professionalism and commitment to serve our region to ensure that all those affected receive an excellent service which will help result in recovery for all clients and families/whanau of Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Service.

Position

We seek an experienced social worker who is passionate about positive social change and is ready to hit the ground running. Someone who will work within the global BOPSASS team to provide crisis /brief intervention support and community linkage. As this is a new position for the Whakatane/Kawerau/Opotiki areas, authentic networking and collaboration skills will be a significant advantage. A strong work ethic with the ability to be flexible and adaptable, while excellent problem - solving skills and great team spirit are also required. You must have a good understanding of and the application of the Vulnerable Children’s Act 2014. The work will be varied including (not limited to) assessments, social support for clients and whanau, reporting, some travel will be required.

Required:

  • An enthusiasm for working co-operatively with others and ability to work alongside colleagues in a supportive and collaborative manner
  • Clean and current driving licence.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the development of plans and reports, ensuring all information is recorded accurately 
  • Pre-employment drug testing may be utilised.
  • Sound working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Social Work qualification – Minimum 5 year’s relevant experience working with high risk, vulnerable/ traumatised clients and whanau. SWRB/ANZSW member or working towards it.
  • Strong local knowledge and networks.
  • Satisfactory Police Vetting as per VCA 2014.
