The University of Canterbury celebrates people prepared to make a difference: tangata tū, tangata ora. Its mission is to contribute to society through knowledge in chosen areas of endeavour by promoting a world-class learning environment, known for attracting people with the greatest potential to make a difference.

The College of Business and Law within the University of Canterbury (UC) is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to provide academic leadership and effective management of the UC Business School's well-established portfolio of conversion Business Taught Masters (BTM) programmes.

Based in Christchurch, New Zealand, there are currently some 300 students enrolled in the BTM programmes, which are complementary to and delivered alongside the School's flagship post-experience, MBA programme. The newly established Director BTM position offers the opportunity to lead highly successful and innovative programmes in a niche Business School which is ranked in the top 5% of the world.

Reporting to the Head of UC Business School and responsible for three administrative staff, you will ensure that the BTM courses and programme offerings are industry relevant and aligned with stakeholder needs within a rapidly changing work environment. A key priority for this role will be the development of new programmes to support sustainable growth in terms of student enrolments. In this context, the introduction of flexible delivery and micro-credentialing of courses will also be a key aspect of the role. You will be required to teach, to supervise student projects, and to be actively engaged in research, with current publications underway, or to display ongoing relevant industry/professional networks and activities.

While a minimum of a relevant postgraduate qualification is essential, you will ideally hold a PhD or equivalent level professional qualification. You will demonstrate a high level of standing and credibility gained either through academic leadership positions or senior level industry/professional career experience. A successful track record of innovative and cutting-edge teaching practices in post-graduate or executive development programmes will be evident in your career and will include postgraduate level curriculum development and delivery.

As this programme attracts a high level of international students, you will ideally have experience in the international student market, combined with strong partnership development skills.

This is a strategic leadership position and you will thrive in an atmosphere of innovation, while demonstrating critical thinking. With strong administrative and people management skills, you will display creative and flexible responses suited to a challenging and dynamic environment. Your previous success with building industry relationships and strong relational skills will be essential, as will your commitment to diversity and bi-culturalism.
