The Opportunity

A visionary Group Chief Financial Officer is required to provide financial and commercial leadership across the Auckland Council Group. This is a role pivotal to Auckland's future - ensuring that Auckland Council delivers and provides value for money for ratepayers while enhancing the reputation of an organisation committed to ongoing transformation. The Group CFO is a steward of Auckland's assets and must cascade information and advice to the organisation's diverse stakeholders. 

As a member of the Chief Executives leadership team, this is a challenging and rewarding role with significant scale and scope. The position has seven departments reporting to it with a team of over 700 people and is accountable for annual capital expenditure of $1.8 billion and operating expenditure of $3.1 billion. As well as responsibility for the finance functions, the Group CFO role has a broad mandate that includes Information Systems and Technology Infrastructure as well as oversight of the property and procurement functions.

About you

To be a contender for this opportunity, you will have to demonstrate a true passion for making a positive and ongoing difference to Auckland. This team works tirelessly and collaboratively to deliver successful financial outcomes for Auckland.  Ultimately this role is a substantial financial leadership and stakeholder management position. So, included in your experience will be extensive leadership experience at CFO or another Executive level in a large complex organisation with a significant asset base. Of importance are exceptional relationship skills and high emotional intelligence with demonstrable experience representing the organisation on multifaceted stakeholder issues and interests. The ability to understand a range of functions, beyond financial, within the CFO portfolio along with a commitment to further developing a collaborative team is also key. A mix of broad private commercial and public-sector business experience is preferred.

You will need proven success in:

Collaboration and performance, a hands-on and pragmatic approach to agreeing outcomes

The ability to understand and interpret complexity while bringing strategic acumen to business planning Experience in achieving successful outcomes and results through influencing

A relevant (preferably post-graduate commercial) tertiary qualification
