About us

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council is responsible for the sustainable management of the region's natural resources. We look after important functions relating to environmental protection and enhancement, safety and resilience, regional development, promoting responsible resource use and overseeing compliance activities. Our Role

The primary function of this role is to manage compliance in respect to large industrial resource consents, with a focus on the entire Mount Maunganui Industrial Portfolio. This is a key area which encompasses the entire Port of Tauranga. You’ll use your experience and expertise to support and assist your colleagues in the industrial team. There’s plenty of opportunity to get involved in raising public awareness, and with major input into policy and legislation. This role will be based in Tauranga. 

It is expected that the successful applicant will also occasionally respond to environmental complaints and contribute to staffing our 24/7 after hours Pollution Hotline. You will also assist the wider Regulatory Compliance team with a variety of other compliance related projects across a range of consented and unconsented activities. 

The skills and personal attributes we look for: 

* Well-developed knowledge of the Resource Management Act  
* Well-developed negotiation skills with the ability to resolve potential conflict situations 
* Excellent problem solving ability  
* A high level of written ability combined with top notch verbal communication skills 
* Community, cultural and political awareness 
* At least five years’ relevant work experience in either managing industrial resource consenting and working with monitoring reports 
* Although not essential, candidates with experience in contaminated land or waste management would be highly desirable.

Many operations in the Mount Maunganui Industrial area operate 24/7 therefore some flexibility in working hours may be necessary from time to time, however an on call allowance will be provided to cover this.
