Detail information about job Capability Development Manager, Wellington. Terms and conditions vacancy

Our vision is that New Zealand is the ‘Greatest Living Space on Earth' and our strategy is to work with others to grow conservation. From a capability development perspective, we play an important role in enabling our people to help us get there.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and drive the capability development function inside the Organisational Development Unit at DOC.

The purpose of the role is to lead a high performing team that delivers fit-for-purpose and valuable capability development work, to address capability gaps and enhance performance across DOC.

The focus of the role is:

  • Setting and driving the strategy for capability development at DOC
  • Ensuring that the Capability Development Team has the right skills and expertise to deliver on the strategy
  • Supporting and leveraging the delivery of Capability Development's core service offering; ensuring everything we do is fit-for-purpose, is customer-centred and adds value.
  • Capability Development thought leadership

We are seeking a leader who is great with people, orientates themselves around problems to solve and is focussed on delivering fit-for-purpose solutions based on a strong understanding of the need. You'll be someone who can deliver well to the current requirements but is also eager to understand and develop the DOC capabilities that will be needed in the future. You'll ask "why?" a lot

Good stakeholder management skills are important - you'll feel very comfortable around DOC's senior leaders and you'll be influential and credible.

You have a team of six to manage, so you'll need to ensure that what we are doing is having the desired impact and our resources are being deployed in the most efficient and effective way. You also need to ensure that what you are doing fits with the overall OD/HR Strategy and is aligned to the work happening across the group.

In terms of skills and experience, we need someone who:

  • has experience working with different learning strategies, especially e-learning and using mobile devices as a delivery mechanism
  • understands  business systems thinking
  • has experience in setting and executing strategy, a curious mind and the ability to make sound, data-driven decisions
  • can demonstrate the ability to build and sustain a high performing team that delivers value to a business
