These are fixed term from for twenty-eight (28) weeks

 

Are you someone who loves the outdoors, has lots of practical skills and enjoys working with threatened species? If yes, then this is the job for you.

 

Applicants are invited to apply for one of three positions of "Ranger Operations", based at the Rangiora Office. These are fixed term positions starting on 3rd September 2018 and ending on 3rd May 2019. As a Ranger Operations you will be joining our talented delivery teams carrying out critical conservation work with orange-fronted kākāriki.

 

The focus of these positions is to carry out monitoring and protection of orange-fronted kākāriki (OFK's) in the Hawdon, Poulter and South Branch Hurunui Valleys. In particular, the successful applicants will be required to:

  • Locate, protect and monitor OFK's and their nests
  • Harvest OFK eggs and chicks
  • Assist with predator trapping and monitoring
  • Assist with other biodiversity duties as and when required
  • Assist with volunteer supervision

 

We are looking for responsible and reliable people with a high level of physical fitness, excellent bird identification skills, patience, perseverance and who are comfortable living and working in remote back country settings.

 

Work is rostered, usually on a 10 day on and 4 day off, over a 40 hour week. Most work time will be spent based from huts in the field.

 

We are looking for a team player, who is not afraid of hard work, and who have the following skills:

  • Knowledge and/or experience in field delivery work
  • Experience and/or qualifications in working with LUV quad motorbikes, 4WD vehicles and other field-based equipment
  • A current First Aid certificate
  • A good basic knowledge of conservation
  • Good communication skills and an ability to get on with people
  • A valid driver's licence
  • Experience in monitoring and handling species is desirable
  • A current Approved Handlers Certificate would be an advantage

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
