It is an exciting time here at Whangarei District Council as our district continues to grow and we are continuously working to strengthen our strategic partnerships and enhance service provision to our community. To support us in achieving our objectives we are looking for an outstanding administrator to take on the role of Democracy Adviser on a part-time basis, (26 hours per week), within the Democracy & Assurance team at Whangarei District Council. 

This role will provide administration services required to support council democratic processesincluding committee meetings and hearings. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability and desire to provide sound advice to ensure the effective operation of Council, committee meetings and hearings. You will work well in a team environment and show a willingness to pitch in wherever needed to support others within the Democracy Services team.

You will be dedicated to providing outstanding support to facilitate the effective running of our democratic processes. Your innate ability to communicate well and build relationships, along with great customer service will be integral to your success in this role.

Our ideal candidate will need:

  • Strong administration skills and experience around the preparation of professional meeting agendas and minutes
  • Ability to effectively liaise between the operational and governance sides of local government
  • Ability to operate effectively with a high level of diplomacy
  • Strong administration skills and experience around the preparation of professional meeting agendas and minutes
  • Organisation skills / project management
  • Adept in the use of communication technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work well and support others within a team environment
  • Understanding of local government systems and processes.
