Contributing to development of Council's strategic direction, this role supports strategy, planning and policy functions, providing advice across the whole spectrum of Council business.

You will be a specialist concerning local government processes including consultation, special consultative procedures, decision-making requirements and development of strategies and policies, being well versed in the Local Government Act and other relevant legislation. Understanding of the Resource Management Act and other legislation applicable to local government is an advantage in this role.

You'll undertake quality research, analysis and reporting; and engage with the elected representatives and community often through the development of Council's corporate planning (community plans, long term plans and annual plans). You will also lead the development of Council strategies, bylaws and policies.

Using your excellent interpersonal and relationship development skills, you'll provide advice to the entire organisation, Council and Community Boards. We have a busy work programme for the coming years and are looking for an enthusiastic new team member to work across a range of policy and planning matters.

With a relevant tertiary qualification you'll have recent strategic planning experience in a similar position in a local authority or government agency.  You'll join a small, dynamic Policy and Planning team responsible for all Local Government Act and Resource Management Act planning, and be well supported and heard by the leaders in our organisation.
