The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and 4 prisons totaling 3300 inmates.

 

We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services.  This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.  The Mason Clinic has 116 inpatient beds of which 12 are for offenders with an intellectually disability.

This role provides a pivotal service in the daily running of the site so the successful applicant must be able to work with the team to provide a safe, efficient and high quality customer-focused service. Key responsibilities will include preventing or minimising risk or threat, enforcing and promoting Health and Safety, and providing a visible and practical security presence while providing a flexible, high quality service extending care and consideration to patients, staff and visitors.

 

The nature of this role is partly responsive/reactive so we're looking for people who work calmly under pressure, able to respond to emergencies and challenging situations that will require prompt and appropriate action in a courteous and respectful manner. 

 

Applicants will be able to operate security equipment and systems, be computer literate, write clear and concise reports and keep detailed records so excellent verbal and written skills are essential.
