Are you an experienced Project Manager after a large, complex and long term project?

The Ministry of Defence is after two Project Managers to assist with the delivery of the recently announced aircraft which will replace the iconic P-3K2 Orion. This project will make a real difference to the lives of people in New Zealand and abroad.Working in partnership with the New Zealand Defence Force to drive integrated end to end alignment across the project, you'll plan, manage and monitor the project as part of the Integrated Project Team which is led by an Integrated Project Team Leader.

We need Project Managers who, collectively across the two positions, are comfortable developing and overseeing complex project schedules, maintaining and managing project finances, identifying and effectively managing risk, keeping tight control of project scope and communicating effectively within and beyond the project team. By doing these things well, you'll be contributing to our country becoming an international exemplar in military capability management.These roles are for a fixed term period of 4 years, to meet the length of the project. To achieve in the role you'll need to have outstanding relationship management and communication skills, and be highly organised and flexible in your approach. You'll also have:

  • A proven track record in supporting project delivery for large, multi-faceted and complex projects
  • Experience in a project management methodologies, specifically practical risk management and/or schedule management
  • Procurement and project financial management experience
  • Proven ability to deal with complex, conceptual issues and to apply problem solving techniques
  • Ability to successfully lead a small project support team
  • Excellent scheduling and Microsoft Project skills
  • Continuous improvement focus
  • Attention to detail and be extremely organised and systematic
  • A good understanding of management accounting and financial management principles and practices

An understanding of the defence industry would be an advantage.
