ABOUT THE ROLE

We are now seeking a Senior Communications Advisor to provide specialist advice and direction to the team, to ensure best practice communication is provided across AT and to communicate and engage the people of Auckland on our new high profile projects.

Our Senior Communications Advisor is specifically responsible for drafting and implementing proactive and reactive communication and engagement strategies which enhance the reputation of Auckland Transport. You will advise project teams on public relations and communications best practice, provides issues management advice and identify potential communications risks and recommend mitigations. You will also develop AT's relationships with key stakeholders and partners and provide relevant support to all business areas.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You will have the ability to inspire confidencethrough your professionalism, discretion, diplomacy and integrity. Needless to say you will be an excellent wordsmith; articulate and persuasive as well as confident and composed in any setting.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Minimum of six years experience in a relevant advisory role within communications or public affairs.
  • Proven experience in working with internal and external partners to deliver organisational goals.
  • Ability to initiate, grow and maintain effective working relationships, internally and externally.
  • Excellent written expertise and an informative and engaging speaker who comfortably connects with individuals or groups from all backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational skills; be proactive and able to plan and prioritise time on mission critical activities.
  • Well-honed conflict management skills and be solutions focused.
  • A good understanding of Local Government and community issues and be politically astute.

Reporting to our Communications Manager, this role is mostly project based and requires a communication professional with a broad communications skill set plus the drive and enthusiasm to connect with Auckland's communities.
