The Gore District Council is located in the agricultural heartland of Southland close to Queenstown, Te Anau and the Catlins. As one of three local authorities in Southland, it covers an area of 1,250km with a population of more than 12,000.  The Gore district provides a rural city lifestyle unrivalled by most, with exceptional community and recreational facilities. Gore District’s location provides easy access to ski fields, the best of New Zealand’s national and forest parks, and major urban centres. Gore is simply a wonderful place to live and captures the quintessential kiwi small town, with an established arts and cultural scene.

The Gore District is undergoing unprecedented growth across all sectors, spearheaded by a new $260m premium nutritional plant currently nearing completion and with further investment already planned. Reporting to the General Manager Regulatory and Planning, this key role leads the full spectrum of resource management, planning and policy development functions including: resource consent processing, district plan implementation, and execution of the spatial plan and growth strategy, whilst ensuring services are delivered with a strong community and customer focus.

Successful candidates will have a relevant tertiary qualification with demonstrated leadership experience in planning, resource management or policy analysis. A sound working knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Planning and Consent processing, RMA policy and Bylaws is essential, along with excellent interpersonal, communication and project management skills. This challenging role is flexible to suit either an intermediate or a senior level candidate wanting a step up to the next level.

This represents an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to lead and develop the RMA functions for the Gore District Council, whilst enjoying all the lifestyle benefits of living in the Southland District.
