The opportunity

From budgets and legislation to project management and creation, the variety of work within Local Board Services is wide reaching. There is something to interest, push and challenge everyone.  The role also involves political insight and direct contact with decision makers, making a difference in local communities, and working alongside a wide range of council departments and staff.

At the local level you could be working on a project to enable a local board priority, liaising closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the community’s needs are met, and going on site visits to projects the board have an interest in.  At the department wide level you could be meeting with people from across council to ensure local board views are accounted for, writing and reviewing papers, attending working groups and assisting wherever needed including business support. 

About you

To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:

  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand, or be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
  • A relevant Bachelor degree or postgraduate qualification obtained in the last two years, or be a current student and graduating before the end of January 2019.

This graduate programme is a unique opportunity to gain exposure and experience in a dynamic field, within a team focused on achieving our vision: for Auckland to be a world-class city. We are looking for graduates with a New Zealand accredited tertiary qualification in a wide range of areas, including public policy, public management, humanities, business or commerce, finance and law.

Please note that applications will be reviewed only after the closing date.  If you are suitable for the programme, we may have a quick discussion with you, which would take place between the 30th of July and the 10th of August.

The successful candidates will start their journey with our southern local board teams around the Manukau through to Pukekohe areas.
