The opportunity

The establishment of significant new funding through the Natural Environment Targeted Rate is a testament to Aucklanders’ passion and commitment to the environment, and that includes protecting one of Aotearoa's treasures from extinction.  In this role you will have the privilege of leading a team focussed on protecting our kauri forests from kauri dieback disease.  You will review, refine and manage Auckland Council’s Environmental Services’ kauri dieback programme of work, and will drive technical best practice across the council family in this area. 

To be effective in your role, you will work closely in partnership with other parts of council and with external stakeholders including mana whenua, the Department of Conservation, Ministry of Primary Industries, interest groups, research agencies and other regional councils.

About you

We are looking for a seasoned people leader. Your passion for making a positive impact on our natural areas and on Auckland will shine through, inspiring your team to continuously strive to deliver bigger and better environmental outcomes for the region. You have a strong strategic mind and have experience in developing and managing programmes of work in the biosecurity, biodiversity, conservation or related fields.  Financially astute, you have experience managing significant budgets and contracts.  A collaborator, you are a natural at building and maintaining strong, respectful and enduring relationships, and get satisfaction from facilitating shared outcomes.
