Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the firefighters who serve them, now and in the future.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Planning and Intelligence Officer to join our busy team. Reporting to the Planning & Performance Manager, you'll be responsible for coordinating and maintaining the region's response data and building an intelligence-based profile of the operating environment so as to provide the frontline with key relevant reports for informed decision making.

In this role, you will be gathering information and intelligence from the community, stakeholders and partners and making it available to the Region Executive Team and the wider organisation. The role utilises ARCGIS extensively for analytics and producing visual mapping of key outcomes. You'll also play a key role in supporting the business planning process and in identifying and implementing business improvement initiatives for the region.

The ideal applicant:

  • Experience in researching, analysing information and risk management
  • Comfortable working with information systems and tools (particularly ARCGIS and Excel) to identify and utilise data sets and information resources
  • Comfortable managing Communication Centre pre-planned response data within a bespoke ICT application
  • Adept at building collaborative working relationships with a wide range of people and organisations. A team player
  • Exceptional time management skills
