We require a Deputy Harbourmaster to assist the Harbourmasters to manage and administer navigation safety on the Coromandel Peninsula, based in Whitianga. The work available is characterised by a seasonal increase in workloads so the hours of work for the role are varied to meet these seasonal needs. 

This is a regulatory role, required to ensure recreational boating comply with the acts and regulations governing harbour and waterway activities. This is achieved through regular maintenance, inspections, public education and compliance work. 

Candidates will require a current Coastguard Boatmasters certificate, appropriate Maritime NZ qualifications and ideally have experience in navigation and safety. 

While the role is based in Whitianga, the successful candidate must be qualified with a current drivers licence and be willing to travel to other Harbours or locations as part of the role. You must also be physically fit for the work involved and willing to undertake a health assessment if required. 

Training will be provided in managing compliance with regulations.
