Are you keen to showcase your communication and coordination skills, contributing to cross-agency initiatives? Looking for the next step in your career? We have an exciting opportunity for an Engagement Advisor, working at the heart of central government and the national security sector.

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC)

DPMC occupies a unique position at the centre of New Zealand's system of democratic government. It exists to support the effective conduct of executive government by the Prime Minister, the Governor-General and members of the Cabinet. The Engagement Advisor forms an important part of Intelligence Coordination Unit, which as part the Security and Intelligence Group, supports DPMC's leadership role in the national security sector.

What's in it for you

The Intelligence Coordination Unit works across the intelligence sector to lead and enable the effective delivery of the Government's intelligence priorities, with a particular focus on high-level customers, including the Prime Minister and other Ministers. The Unit is responsible for supporting the National Intelligence Coordination Committee and actively manages frameworks to empower and support multi-agency coordination groups. The Unit also leads DPMC's contribution to an intelligence community initiative to improve customer engagement using a systems thinking framework.

The Engagement Advisor, Intelligence Coordination, works across a number of key work streams, including:

  • Contribution to the Customer Engagement Initiative, supporting and coordinating improvements being trialled across core intelligence community agencies
  • Supporting the National Intelligence Coordination Committee (NICC), including drafting agendas, minute taking and general secretariat duties, and where appropriate help to improve the committee's focus and effectiveness
  • Providing business support to the National Assessment Bureau's ministerial customer briefings and high-level visits
  • Developing and reviewing processes to support the organisation in achieving business goals
  • Collecting and analysing data to inform decision-making on cross-sector initiatives

This role provides a unique opportunity for anyone already working within the national security workforce, or for those who are new to it, to gain experience working with agencies across the entire intelligence sector on strategic, priority issues. Working with us is about being part of a small, agile team with big ambitions.

What we're looking for

To be successful in the role of Engagement Advisor you will need to be:

  • Customer-focused, with a great ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Willing to try new approaches, adapt to change and encourage improvement across the workplace
  • A 'systems thinker', with an ability to identify and analyse end-to-end work processes and suggest improvements

Flexible working arrangements and secondment opportunities are welcomed.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.

Applications close Monday the 30 July 2018. All applications must be made online.
