WorkSafe New Zealand - Health and Safety Inspector - Assessments Team - Manukau

WorkSafe New Zealand is now hiring a full time permanent Health and Safety Inspector for the Assessments team in Manukau. WorkSafe is the Government’s health and safety regulator charged with leading the biggest shakeup of health and safety in a generation. We’re seeking people who are truly passionate about changing the way all Kiwis’ view health and safety and making sure the injury and fatality rates reduce.

You start as a trainee (starting salary of approximately $63K) and progress your way through a series of in-house training courses, on the job experience and coaching until you obtain a Certificate of Appointment giving you powers as an Inspector. Your training doesn't stop there as you continue to build your skills and knowledge to become a highly competent regulator.

As a Health and Safety Inspector for the assessments team you will bring a high level of integrity, excellent judgement and decision making skills and an aptitude for learning. Being able to build rapport with business owners and workers is essential to the role as you’ll be dealing with a wide range of people. Our assessments inspectors proactively assess workplaces and engage with workers and employers. All of our inspectors enforce the law when they see non-compliance so being firm, fair and resilient are essential quantities.

The must haves:

  • Be a NZ Citizen or NZ Permanent Residency
  • Have a full drivers licence with an ability to drive a manual car
  • Show commitment to follow policies and procedures
  • Have the ability to write business documents and reports
  • Be computer literate
  • Be flexible to work across Location and once warranted, and be rostered for after-hours and weekend work when required

What experience do you need?

We’re always keen to hear from people who already have experience in health and safety assessments, audits or investigations or who have already worked in a job that requires applying the law/regulations; however we are also open to hearing from applicants with industry experience.
