Leading and influencing better outcomes for Māori

The opportunity

Te Waka Anga Mua ki Uta/Māori Strategy and Relations Department (TWA) is tasked with leading and influencing better outcomes for Māori in Tāmaki Makarau.  The department is responsible for providing advice on all Māori-specific policy, planning, research and evaluation, stakeholder engagement, relationship management, bicultural development and training, and Māori protocol and process information and activities.

This is an opportunity to expand your skills and gain a greater understanding of Te Ao Māori while contributing to the important kaupapa of building Māori responsiveness across the Auckland Council group. Being part of Te Waka Anga Mua ki Uta means you have exposure across council while being part of a small friendly team who enjoy sharing good kai together.

You will have the chance to meet Mana Whenua leaders of Tāmaki Makarau, participate in discussions on local cultural heritage, advance your learning on treaty settlements and get involved with cool events that celebrate our Māori identity.

About you

To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:

  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand, or be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
  • Be available to work full-time between November 2018 and February 2019
  • Be in your penultimate year of studies towards a relevant qualification

We welcome students studying towards a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any New Zealand accredited qualification.  This internship is aimed at attracting a Maori student who is passionate about leading and influencing the outcomes for Māori in Tāmaki Makarau.
