Wellington Airport is the hub of New Zealand’s domestic aviation network and the gateway to the Capital and the surrounding region. A major player on Wellington’s economic landscape, the airport contributes to the growth and development of regional commercial activity and tourism, and is a significant enabler of business and government activity.

We are looking for a Firefighter for our Airport Fire Service (AFS), whose key responsibilities will be to carry out operational duties to ensure the constant readiness of the AFS and the safety of airport users and personnel at all times. This includes maintaining vehicles and equipment, as well as various tasks to ensure the operational integrity of the airfield.

Key attributes for successful candidates include:

• Practical firefighting experience is desirable
• Must be physically fit and healthy, able to pass and maintain medical clearance checks and physical competency assessments
• Must hold at least a New Zealand Class 2 driver’s licence
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• The ability to work in a team environment
• A high degree of common sense
• A calm, friendly and resilient nature
• Previous maritime experience is desirable
• Must be able to pass an aviation security background check in order to obtain a Civil Aviation Authority Airport Identity Card
• Must be able to work a shift roster – shifts are 12 hours – 4 days on / 4 days off
