Do you work with SCADA, PLC’s, and Fibre Optic Communications? We are seeking a Communications Technician to be involved with construction and maintenance on high voltage transmission substations and switch yards. The role can be based in either Nelson or Greymouth.

Located in the top of the scenic South Island of New Zealand our client is a market leading high voltage electrical company with contracts across the South Island. They service the needs of clients in transmission, distribution, and electrical services and have a reputation for being highly capable power providers in the industrial, commercial, and domestic sectors.

The Job
Communication Technicians who are in this sector know what this is about, join a team of people who construct and maintain high voltage transmission substations and switch yards.

Job Requirements

• Routine communication equipment maintenance and testing
• Assist in the electrical maintenance and testing of HV equipment
• Carry out acceptance and commissioning testing
• Undertake the commissioning of new substations
• Provide emergency fault response to Transpower and Network Tasman Substation equipment
• Participate in the standby roster
• Install and maintain Transpower and Network Tasman SCADA and Communication systems
• Provide testing and technical advice for external customers

Ideal Attributes for this role are:

Mandatory

• Communications Technician experience in the High Voltage Sector
• Previous Communications Equipment experience with regards to maintenance, repair and new build construction
• Experience with SCADA, some PLC experience, and fibre optic networks
• Strong health and safety awareness
• Can work individually and within a team
• Good time management skills
• Flexible with your working hours
• Current driver’s license

Desirable

• Transpower Experience
• NZ EWRB Electrical registration or transferrable qualifications – a bonus
