About the opportunity:

Nova Systems Australia are currently looking for expressions of interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and motivated individuals to join our Transport Program in Sydney or Newcastle, Australia. As a Principal Systems / Safety Assurance Engineer you are responsible for undertaking consultant activities that will provide a high level of advice to deliver tangible benefits to our Transport clients.

What we would like from you:

  • New Zealand Citizen (mandatory)
  • Bachelor of Engineering, Risk Management, Systems Integration or equivalent - recognised by Engineers Australia;
  • 10+ years’ experience in Systems / Safety Assurance Engineering;
  • 5 years’ experience in a rail environment;
  • Experience in developing, documenting and evidencing Safety Assurance arguments across the complete asset / project lifecycle;
  • Managed the preparation and development of Safety Assurance Reports, statements and related documents;
  • Resolving complex issues pertaining to Safety and Risk across complex projects;
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems, and application of risk management methodology;
  • Proven ability to identify improvements and actions required to ensure compliance with Safety Legislation and Safety Management Systems, with advice and support to implement necessary changes;
  • Experience in completion of hazard analysis coupled with managing hazard logs and hazard workshops;
  • Ability to lead and influence the performance of team members in meeting Safety Assurance requirements.

Desirable experience:

  • Understanding of MIL-STD-882E or TfNSW ASA standards (highly regarded);
  • Independent Safety Assessment experience in Defence, Transport or other industries (highly regarded);
  • Good understanding of software safety critical systems and/ or mechanical / electrical systems;
  • Able to produce high quality document deliverables to short time frames.
  • Experience in performing Systems Assurance reviews and preparation of compliance demonstration arguments using Goal Structured Notation
  • Requirements capture and management utilising dedicated tools such as DOORS, ComplyPro
  • Experience with PTV, Yarra Trams, MMRA, LXRA or MTM processes and procedures

  • Adaptable and able to learn quickly;
  • Consulting experience desirable with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
