Detail information about job Trainee Digital Designer - Structural. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Be part of a growing structural digital modelling team
  • Opportunity to work for a global consultancy
  • Auckland based role

The Mott MacDonald Group is a dynamic and innovative management, engineering and development consultancy working on landmark projects worldwide. Wholly independent and employee owned, we have staff worldwide working in all sectors including transport, energy, buildings, water and the environment and advisory.

Our team is welcoming a new leader in Advanced Computational Design and we are seeking to grow our team further with a new Trainee Digital Designer for our structural digital design team in Auckland.

Our team consists of digital modellers and uses various tools to deliver structural designs. This includes Revit as one of the primary modelling tools however we use many others. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is also a process of design that we follow, but we are also involved in the development of the digital engineering workflow, advanced geometry, parametric processes and imagery.

As our newest team member, you will have completed a relevant tertiary qualification with strong computer literacy and have some experience in modelling packages. You will have a background in computer programming and algorithm generation, ideally using Dynamo for Revit or Grasshopper for Rhinoceros (being agile in programming languages such as Python would be an asset).

This role will allow you to develop your modelling skillset in a variety of packages with Revit and Rhino as the primary tools, which will flow through to an understanding of building information modelling (BIM) and the application of parametric processes.

You will gain a high level of skill in software applications such as AutoCAD, Revit, Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshopper, SketchUP, 3D Studio Max and Navisworks to create and modify design models for buildings, structures and engineered elements.

Instruction and assistance will come from the mentoring of senior staff to produce structural models, drawings, details as well as drawings from 3D models for use in technical reports, presentations and marketing material.

What we like to see from you:
• Industry relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (professional degree preferred)
• Prior background in computer programming, algorithm generation, or visual scripting
• Ability to deliver to timeframes and seek innovative solutions
• Self-motivation, a willingness to learn, adapt and excel
• A quality portfolio of work that the candidates are proud to describe. A real understanding of the ‘story’ of these projects and how they added value
• Varied building engineering project experience using multiple materials
• Some knowledge of building information modelling, its process and implementation

In turn you will be working on projects that shape the communities in which we live. We adopt a pioneering mindset and meet our challenges head on.
