Systems and Electronics Technician
Chemical and Process Engineering (CAPE)

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

What You Will Do

We invite applications for the Systems and Electronics Technician position where you will manage the Department's computer systems, support teaching and research by providing in-house expert knowledge and specialist equipment/software that keeps pace with changing requirements, developments and technologies. You will provide full and timely specialist technical advice, training and support to staff and students in the area of electronics interfacing, data acquisition, construction and support for teaching and research equipment while ensuring the technology and IT systems that are unique to the Department are supported and maintained efficiently and effectively, in liaison with Information Technology Services (ITS).

Who You Are

You will have a NZ National Diploma in engineering specialising in Electronics or Computer (NZQA Level 6) or other relevant qualification. You will be highly skilled in computer systems administration and desktop support developed in large networked environments utilising relevant Microsoft operating systems. Proficiency in both electronic device programming and hardware interfacing, including microprocessors, interface cards e.g. Arduino or Raspberry Pi controllers as well as with electronic testing and data acquisition systems is a must.

The Department is strong and forward-looking and is dedicated to excellence in research and teaching. CAPE offers a fully accredited (Engineering NZ and IChemE) four year undergraduate degree including minors in bioprocess engineering and in energy processing. We graduate approximately 60-70 BE(Hons) per year. We offer postgraduate degrees at both the ME and PhD level with postgraduate enrolments currently at ~50. We currently have 12 academic staff contributing to the teaching and research programme complimented by 11 support staff.
