Since the 2010-2011 Canterbury earthquake sequence of events, large cruise ships have been unable to berth at Lyttelton Port, using Akaroa Harbour as an alternative where possible. Christchurch City Council (CCC) has a strong desire for large cruise vessels to return to Lyttelton Port due to the wider tourism benefits to the city. The Lyttelton Port of Christchurch (LPC) is embarking on a project to construct a custom cruise ship facility which will be able to accommodate some of the largest cruise vessels in operation worldwide. LPC is committed to delivering this important project by the start of September 2019 in time for the 2019-2020 cruise ship season.
The proposed berth layout consists of:
- Landside bollards at the west of Cashin Quay 4 to restrain the bow lines;
- A 10m wide suspended deck wharf structure to allow alighting of passengers and light vehicle access;
- Two dolphins for berthing and mooring to the east of the main wharf; and
- Two mooring dolphins to restrain the stern lines.
This exciting project is now underway and HEB is looking to employ a talented, high energy Site Engineer to join our Structures Team on site and make his/her mark on this landmark project.
Qualifications/Experiences Sought
- Civil Engineering tertiary level qualification
- Appropriate knowledge of reinforced concrete, piling, precasting, post tensioning, heavy lifts and plant
- Knowledge of setting out
- Excellent computer literacy and experience using MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook
- Current full Class 1 driver's licence
Notwithstanding the above you'll be an excellent communicator (both verbal and written), have outstanding planning and organisational skills and demonstrable negotiation skills. Having well developed interpersonal, analytical and time management skills will also be critical to the success of this important role.
