GSL is headquartered in Hornby, Christchurch and has been providing Grounds Maintenance, Civil Construction and Landscaping services to New Zealand regions and Councils, NZTA, and large property owners and businesses for the last 20 years.

We offer a range of services across civil contracting, open spaces and mechanical services, and have developed a cohesive team of skilled professionals and a loyal client base with a robust workload ahead. Some of our capabilities include mowing services, hydro seeding, landscaping, construction, sports turf, spraying and pest plant control. Our extensive range of plant and equipment is supplemented by our transportation fleet to get the resources to where they need to go, and our large certified workshop ensures the fleet is regularly serviced and maintained.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Estimator who will effectively manage the preparation and collation of cost estimates and quotes to the required specifications and plans of the tender documentation. To be outstanding in this role you will be solution focused and calm under pressure, in an environment that requires deadlines to be met. You will also have the personal strength and ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team environment.

Key accountabilities:

  • Prepare and collate cost estimates for Submissions, Quotes and Tenders
  • Monitor and manage the submission of variation orders to contracts
  • Assist with the planning of works schedules and programs including the allocation of resources to meet targets and responsibilities
  • Collate and present all relevant financial information for monthly submissions
  • Maintain an up to date awareness of current projects in the industry
  • Manage supplier and customer relationships
  • Provide technical and administrative leadership in relation to the pricing software

What you’ll bring:

  • An appropriate industry or tertiary qualification in the areas of Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Contract Management or Project Management
  • Successful and demonstrable background in Contract Management or Project Management in Civil Construction or Open Space Management
  • Experience working with NZS3910: Conditions of Contract, Resource Management and Statutory Compliance
  • Extensive experience in project scheduling using MS project or similar
  • Self-motivation with the proven ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Drive to achieve productivity, goals and deadlines
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Highly effective communication skills, with attention to detail
  • Be able to deal with people across all levels of the organisation
