About the company
The Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) is an applied research and extension organisation responsible primarily to New Zealand’s arable growers. FAR is involved with the funding of valuable arable research and technology transfer to growers. To ensure that FAR can continue to deliver valuable and high-quality services; we need a talented, R&D focused executive to join the team.
About the opportunity
This is a new role within FAR which will ensure that FAR invests in the right, high quality, relevant research and extension for cropping farmers – meeting strategic objectives of the organisation and providing real value to New Zealand’s arable industry.
Based in Christchurch and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager Research, Development and Extension will have a strategic view of FAR investment in Research, Development and Extension to ensure the Research and Development Advisory Committee retains a visionary and proactive approach. In doing this the General Manager Research, Development and Extension will:
- Identify, plan, manage and prioritise high quality research programmes to support cropping farmers.
- Work closely with a broad range of organisations including Crown Research Institutes, Universities, industry organisations and international researchers in collaborative research programmes.
- Lead a team of research managers and field research officers to deliver successful research and extension outcomes to benefit New Zealand crop farmers.
- In conjunction with the General Manager Business and Relationships, effectively manage FAR’s research budget.
- Source funding through grants and industry organisations and seek to secure additional investment and partnership both nationally or internationally.
- Contribute to the FAR senior management team.
This role can be part time (>0.6FTE) or full time for the right candidate.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in agricultural science or similar with a similar post graduate qualification. You will have had significant experience in working in applied research and/or extension in relation to cropping and have held senior roles in developing, leading and managing science projects or programmes. You will be an exceptional communicator with the ability to engage across the organisation and with external stakeholders and your leadership style fosters collaboration, information sharing and support to achieve a common goal.
