Detail information about job Operations Manager. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Rare opportunity for a senior management role in idyllic Golden Bay, Tasman
  • Diverse, interesting and challenging role with a unique, high-growth company
  • Lead & manage the dynamic Collingwood team of this leading ecommerce company

HealthPost is New Zealand’s largest online retailer of natural health and beauty products. We are a 30-year old, family-owned business, continuing to go from strength to strength. Somewhat extraordinarily, our warehouse and primary base of operations continues to be in scenic, but remote, Collingwood in the South Island’s beautiful Golden Bay. We’re looking for an equally extraordinary Collingwood-based Operations Manager to help us in our mission to make a lasting, positive impact on the wellbeing of people and the planet.  With 100-odd skilled and dedicated team members between our Auckland and Collingwood premises, strong year-on-year growth, and several exciting new-business opportunities, we’re well-positioned to continue our evolution as NZ’s leading natural wellbeing provider.

This broad and diverse role will see you take overall responsibility for operations in the Collingwood premise: from systems & process improvement, recruitment, health and safety, training and development to facilities maintenance and sustainability. Your overarching accountability will be the smooth, efficient and healthy functioning of the location including team-wellbeing, productivity, scalability and continuity. You will facilitate team training and wellbeing programmes, oversee facilities upkeep and improvements, and contribute to planning, projects, budgets, reporting and strategy.

It’s not always easy leading the NZ market in natural wellbeing retail from a remote, rural location which poses some inherent logistical challenges.  To be successful in this role, you’ll therefore need to be hardworking, high energy and exceptionally capable.  You’ll need to be calm and effective under pressure, while simultaneously demonstrating all the qualities of modern, inclusive leadership and setting standards of excellence.  Your inspirational communication style and authentic, engaging demeanour will be vital personal characteristics in this role. You will also have personal confidence, steadfast determination, cultural sensitivity and a major commitment to health and safety.

Being able to demonstrate a critical, operational role in the successful scaling and growth of a business in a prior position would be a distinct advantage. You’ll need to show you have the experience and ability to provide cultural leadership, maintain organisational focus, impart discipline when needed, and foster continual improvement in all aspects of HealthPost’s operational performance. With the confidence to contribute to strategic goal-setting at C-level, you’ll also be versatile and hands-on enough to deal with the myriad of daily challenges thrown up from the coal-front.

You’ll need to be friendly, flexible, quick-thinking, irrepressibly ‘can-do’ in demeanour and approach, while also process-driven, thoroughly systematic, diligent and organised.  You will also be highly technology/computer literate, commercially astute and financially savvy.  As we’re continually running them, experience in Project Management would be a real asset.

Finally, you will have clearly demonstrable experience in successfully leading operational planning and systematic process evaluation and improvement processes across a range of business functions.

Qualifications & Experience Preferred:

  • Several years’ experience in a senior management position in a sizeable organization
  • A proven history of directly improving organisational performance in previous roles
  • Extensive team management experience, ideally overseeing a team of at least 20+
  • Any relevant experience in the areas of retail, warehousing/logistics, customer service, ecommerce and natural health favourably considered
  • Project management skills, experience and qualifications favourably considered
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. BBA/MBA) favourably considered
  • Several references available from previous roles
  • Citizen or Permanent Resident of New Zealand
