Our client is the world leader in food, pharmaceutical and environmental contract laboratory services.
In New Zealand, they provide Food, Environmental and Pharmaceutical based analytical solutions to customers taking product to market for both the domestic and export sectors.

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced profession to undertake the role of Business Unit Manager for the Auckland Agritesting Laboratory.

The role will assume the management and leadership of the agritesting unit and its staff to support the effective delivery of operations. The Business Unit Manager will be given the autonomy to make this role their own, and the support needed to grow and expand the Unit to further success.

This is a full- time permanent role, Mon to Fri, 8/830am to 430pm/5pm with reasonable overtime expected of this level. Location Auckland, New Zealand.

Duties will include but not limited to the following:

• Manage operations to efficient and profitable levels
• Maintain an effective team to support operation
• Manage operations to maintain a high-level customer centricity
• Market/Industry analysis for further opportunity and risk assessment
• Formulate business unit plan for growth
• Prepare budget and financial plans
• Ensure business units adherence to regulation, accreditation & company standards
• Technology/IT savvy, quick learner
• Provide leadership
• Report to GM and liaise with other BU Managers on initiatives as required

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have the technical experience, business acumen, and be a driven, motivated and a high achieving individual, with a passion and desire to take their career and the unit to the next level.

• Previous experience as a BU Manager covering above duties (ideal)
• Previous management experience in production/manufacturing environment
• Project management experience
• Demonstrated strong business acumen,
• Demonstrated focus on technical excellence, quality, cost reduction
• Demonstrated leadership and decision-making experience
• Enthusiastic self-starter who is passionate about their work is essential
• Experience developing strong and robust relationships with clients
• Self-managed and organised
• Excellent oral, written communication & interpersonal skills

Desirable

• Qualifications in Agriculture or related science discipline
• Contract technical laboratory experience
• Experience within a service delivery organisation
• P&L experience and related responsibilities

The role may also suit an experienced professional (5-10 years) within a service testing laboratory ie pharmaceutical, food, agri etc., who is ready to take the next step up in their career, and demonstrates the relevant career drive/business shrewdness.
