We are looking for a Private Groups Consultant to join our team based in our Newmarket head office, Auckland.

This role will suit a bright, computer literate individual who has strong administrative skills, a sociable personality and loves taking ownership.

You will need to genuinely find New Zealand and the Tourism Industry exciting so you can share this with our customers, as well as desire to commit to the role for a minimum of 2 years.

• Haka Tours is a multi-award-winning Adventure, Snow, MTB and Private Groups tour company providing 3 to 24-day small group guided tours of New Zealand.

• Haka Lodge is an up-market backpacker brand based in Auckland, Bay of Islands, Taupo, Christchurch and Queenstown with 2 new Haka Hotels in Auckland!!

• Haka Educational Tours run sporting, cultural and educational tours for schools and Uni's (domestic and international)

• NZ Snow Tours runs up-market snow tours for families and groups

Your role:

Your primary role will be assisting with the lead generation and account management of all of our prospective private groups business. The perfect person for this role will be a natural at building relationships with people both domestically and internationally.

As the vast majority of your customers will be internationally based you will need to self-manage your time in order to be flexible around contact times and usual working hours.

Through our Tourism Group brand channels, we receive a high number of new requests from families, corporates and special interest groups who require a private and customised tour of New Zealand and so you will be tasked with managing this initial enquiry stage.

During busy periods you will be required to assist our Private Groups Manager in order to develop, curate and price up these itineraries.

Once a group confirms, you will assist with managing all operational requirements. You’ll make bookings with all our suppliers and prepare accurate and detailed tour documentation for the Tour Manager so they can effectively run your trip.

The group quotes can range from short self-drives to much longer, inclusive tours for large groups which means the tours can range in value from $4,000 to $200,000 per group.

No two group requirements are the same so you will be developing custom itineraries based on your customers’ specific needs. Therefore, you need to have exceptional customer service, gathering information, finding solutions and influencing skills.

This is a sales-through-service based role which means no "hard sell" but exceptional customer service and a collaborative approach to developing the best itinerary possible alongside your customer.

Skills needed:

  • Excellent verbal and written English (95% of our customer enquiries are via e-mail)

  • Enjoys a role which has a high administrative component

  • Process-driven with a very high level of accuracy

  • Exceptional organisational skills

  • A sociable and open attitude

  • Takes ownership and does whatever possible to exceed your customers’ expectations

  • Looking for a challenging role with a high degree of autonomy

  • Expert knowledge of New Zealand with particular emphasis on the range of destinations, activities and experiences available

  • You need to be literate with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
