The Senior HR Advisor is a hands-on role where you will manage the employment process for our employees from recruitment until the end of their employment with the company.  You will provide guidance, coaching and operational support to managers and employees to establish and maintain effective HR practices across the organisation. You will have strong knowledge and experience in employment law, leading the company compliance with all existing governmental and legal  requirements. Working closely with the General Manager, this position will be involved with the development and execution of a strategic people plan, enabling Simply Security to attract, develop and retain a high-performing team. The Senior HR Advisor is responsible for ensuring Simply Security’s HR policies, procedures and systems meet the evolving needs of both the organisation and our employees.

Recruitment

  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including role scoping, job advertising, interviews, reference checks and employment documentation, dealing with any employment issues, 
  • Manage any employment issues, including any disciplinary processes, ensuring that it is done in accordance with NZ Employment Law.
  • Develop Simply Security’s employer brand to help attract staff
  • Work alongside managers to ensure they have appropriate resources for their work requirements, ensuring best fit candidates are put forward
  • Liaison with recruitment/temp agencies as required, ensuring they understand the organisation needs.

Operations and Support

  • Manage the recruitment process ensuring all paperwork is complete and matching the person's skill sets and qualifications to company and site requirements
  • Continuously develop and look to improve the capability of managers across the business to ensure the best outcomes for the business relating to people and employment related issues
  • Coach managers to effectively manage regular day-to-day people requirements to Simply Security standards and practices
  • Be the escalation point for general employment and people management queries ensuring the timely resolution of problems to avoid a negative impact on the business objectives and results
  • Identify and develop HR policies, processes and practices that address and resolve business as usual requirements for the business
  • Keep abreast of legislative and industry activities on HR issues
  • Take ownership of managing grievances and disputes, escalating when necessary
  • Manage and maintain an effective Remuneration Review process
  • Conduct staff annual performance appraisals with line managers
  • Liaise with outside agencies to ensure we meet best work practices and adhere to our social responsibilities in particular our training programs

Strategic HR

  • Work with the General Manager and other Senior Management to ensure a People Strategy is set in line with business objectives and plans
  • Take a lead role in implementing and executing on the People Strategy and ensuring milestones and KPIs are met
  • Provide reporting as required for Senior Management and the board on the people strategy

Organisational Development

  • Continuously look to improve organisational development services for the business such as training, induction, leadership programmes, engagement surveys etc
  • Ensure that there is an effective performance appraisal system that is actively used by all staff and managers with relevant measures
  • Define the induction process and content and ensure each staff member undertakes the Simply Security induction process.  Create processes and systems to ensure the induction information is appropriate and complete
  • Define the training requirements for roles and implement systems and processes that document training requirements, training content and an accurate training register is held
  • Work with managers to ensure KPIs are relevant and review these regularly as required.

Health and Safety

  • Drive the implementation of the companies H&S framework
  • Plan and oversee the company policies, processes and initiatives for Health and Safety across the company, in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2016 (and subsequent updates).
  • Ensure that H&S initiatives are implemented and regular meetings are held and documented
  • Adhere to the relevant health and safety policies and procedures, taking all practicable steps to prevent harm to self and others
  • Participate and manage injury management & rehabilitation processes for yourself and injured staff at work
  • Report and record work-related harm, pain or discomfort immediately for yourself and all staff
  • Report and record all hazards and accidents immediately 
  • Knowledge of specific controls for identified site hazard registers
  • Report any emergency and environmental incidents situations to management
  • Participate and coordinate emergency evacuation/drills

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification or relevant experience in HR
  • Strong understanding of Employment Law
  • 5 + years working within generalist HR
  • Experience in a sole HR role
  • Sound experience with employment relations
  • Experience being responsible for the Health and Safety function for an organisation or a high level of Health and Safety involvement
  • Knowledge and understanding of HR operations, systems and procedures
  • Knowledge of HR related legislation and compliance issues
  • Proven administration skills and experience and ability to use Word, Excel and Power Point at an intermediate level
  • The ability to learn quickly
  • A high level of discretion
  • Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage others, build relationships and trust quickly and easily
  • Excellent level of attention to detail
  • Consistently demonstrates sound judgement and has an excellent attitude and who listens, tests and adapts while bringing their professional expertise forward
  • Able to work unsupervised, and take responsibility for own workload and tasks. Will use initiative, but knows when to consult
  • Proven resilience and adaptability and the ability to keep the focus on short or medium-term goals
