Founded in Milton in 1955, Calder Stewart is a family owned and operated building company specialising in Design and Build services to the industrial, commercial, rural and public sectors throughout NZ.  With a team of over 400 employees nationwide, our services and capabilities include custom design and build plus the manufacturing of steel, precast concrete and reinforcing.  

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join our Calder Stewart team. Based in Christchurch and reporting to the General Manager, People and Safety you will be responsible for providing general support and advisory services to all managers and supervisors of the Calder Stewart group, ensuring compliance with legal requirements. There is also a strong administrative focus in this role.   

Skills You Will Need

You will be an integral member of our People and Safety team and bring an enthusiastic approach to your work. What is essential is that you have a proven track record in positively influencing people from all angles, be that from a position of authority or alongside as a colleague or a service provider. The following additional skills and attributes are required:

  • Previous experience in a HR Advisor role
  • An HR qualification is desirable but not essential
  • The ability to build rapport with diverse groups and individuals
  • Ability to effectively prioritise work and consistently meet deadlines
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Maintaining confidentiality is second nature and never negotiable
  • An in depth knowledge of current employment legislation
  • The flexibility to turn your hand to any task that contributes to the effectiveness of the team
