About the Role

The Instructional Designer, Learning and Capability Development provides organisational expertise in the design of highly effective learning interventions through the design and promotion of methodologies, standards, technologies and drawing upon best practice from the wider industry here in New Zealand and internationally.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • developing tools, guidelines and approaches for use by members of the Learning and Capability Development team including peer to peer communication, learning assessment and evaluation
  • researching and identifying learning and development methodologies and standards that are appropriate to the MSD environment and that meets the needs and expectations of the business
  • identifying strategic opportunities to use innovative learning media and technologies
  • building strong internal and external relationships so that service lines and the wider Ministry lead the way in L&D approaches for the Government sector
  • developing and maintaining networks with key internal and external stakeholders, in order to keep them informed and share knowledge on L&D approaches.

Skills and Experience

In order to be successful in this role you will have:

  • extensive experience working in areas of adult education, instructional design, learning technologies and organisational capability and development
  • demonstrated experience in leading the development and implementation of learning and capability strategies, policies and programmes, including monitoring and evaluation
  • advanced proficiency in design and e-learning authoring tools such as Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate and the Adobe Suite. You will be considered a technical expert in your field and be able to provide technical support and advice to the team
  • flair for e-learning design with the ability to capture your audience through sound design principles, storytelling and a great learner experience
  • experience working within large organisations, with demonstrated ability as a coach, mentor and subject matter expert
  • excellent interpersonal skills, capable of establishing and building effective working relationships with people of all cultures and employees at all levels
  • a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably to post graduate level.
