Due to an increase in key projects being rolled out across the organisation supported by the Business Partnering & Reward team, we now have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and adaptable HR Advisor.

This is fixed term role for two-years, based at the Emergency Services and Justice Precinct, Christchurch.

Working closely with your team of HR Business Partners, HR Advisors and Change and ER specialists, you will provide sound advice and guidance to People Leaders in all aspects of the employment relationship, to build manager confidence and decision making. Your work load will range from general HR practices and driving the development of high-performing teams, to supporting change, being involved with the unions, and working on our people strategy.

Your portfolio will be varied, working in not only across a variety of business functions but also in the operational areas of a 24/7, national service organisation.

The role requires energy and drive, strengths in generalist and operational HR best practices; and with this, you will have many opportunities for working on exciting programmes within the P&C team and cross-functional projects.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Significant experience in an HR Advisor/ Manager role, including experience in employment relations and issues management
  • Ability to influence through relationships in a matrix style organisation
  • The ability to think critically and strategically to gain credibility quickly - growing manager confidence and capability
  • Previous experience in a unionised environment
  • A solid understanding of NZ employment law, with the ability to support managers with straight up "best practice" advice
  • Excellent communication & people skills, with the ability to push back or guide where needed
  • Love working side by side with HR - and organisation - colleagues on projects that help make the culture and workplace better - this includes taking a key role in change initiatives to build efficiency and performance
  • Confidence in being part of focus groups and meetings that add value
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
