  • Do you love building awareness campaigns and getting people interested in an issue?
  • Do you relish the opportunity to get in front of people and help them build new skills and capabilities?
  • Are you experienced in learning and development, and looking to stretch your skills in a new direction?

Then we'd like to hear from you!

At the Department of Internal Affairs, we record every life and every death, every marriage and every name change. Our work really does impact the life of every New Zealander. We're passionate about this country and the people that call it home.

The Information and Safety group at the Department of Internal Affairs has recently changed to bring together the interrelated functions of: Health, Safety and Wellness; Information Management; Security and Risk; Resilience and Recovery; and Privacy. This change also established a new central team in the group, Capability and Performance, who will manage capability uplift, training, and performance measurement across this full range of disciplines.

This new and exciting team are now looking for two Capability and Awareness Advisors to develop and lead a capability uplift work-stream to raise the maturity and awareness of information, data, privacy and safety across all levels of the Department.

You'll have the opportunity to work across the full breadth of learning and development practice including; assessing the specialist needs of DIA's functions, developing a training and capability strategy to meet these needs, delivering training, designing learning modules, developing innovative approaches to building maturity and understanding, and creating opportunities to raise awareness and promote good practice.

You'll also be a champion of DIA's new ways of working, encouraging and supporting the effective use of key information management systems and other productivity tools. This will help DIA to realise the benefits of the new working style, and ensure teams are enabled to adopt new ways of working.

The Information and Safety group is an exciting and interesting part of the Department, and you'll be working with a group of highly skilled professionals keen to share their knowledge and passion for keeping DIA's people, information, and assets safe.  DIA is a great place to work with a fantastic culture (recently included in the Randstad Top 20 Most Attractive Organisations in New Zealand) and is full of diverse people and skills.

You'll contribute to the group by:

  • Leading the development of a capability uplift strategy including creating and delivering new learning opportunities. These may take the form of classroom training, e-learning modules or self-help tools
  • Sharing the insights gained with managers, teams and subject matter experts in the wider Information and Safety Group so they can learn from your experiences and apply it to their services
  • Being a champion of new ways of working, including the use of digital tools and promoting an open environment
  • Creating opportunities to promote good practices and increase staff awareness of their responsibilities

You'll bring with you:

  • Experience building and delivering customer centred (and pragmatic) awareness campaigns
  • Experience developing and delivering training in a variety of formats (classroom style training, online learning modules, etc.)
  • High levels of comfort working with enterprise content management technology such as SharePoint and other collaboration tools (e.g. OneNote)
  • Ability to develop an understanding of privacy, information and data management, safety and security standards and practices in the NZ public sector
  • Ability to work with both subject matter experts and users in the business to understand their needs and use this to inform training and awareness work
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a range of audiences

We believe in a workplace culture that's supportive, collaborative and innovative. We also believe in trying hard and having fun. If that sounds like you - then make sure you get in touch.

This is a permanent opportunity; however, we would consider a one year secondment or fixed term if this is preferable.

Applications close: 10pm, Wednesday 25 July 2018
