Lowe Corporation is New Zealand’s largest producer and marketer of animal skins and hides to the international market.

Following a major multimillion dollar capital investment project, building and designing a highly automated state of the art processing facility at its Hastings Tannery, Lowe Corporation is looking for a HSE & Compliance Officer to support day to day operations. 

This role reporting to the Compliance Manager will ensure the health and safety, environmental and quality management system and its processes are maintained across the Hastings and Napier tanneries.    In this role you would be responsible for:

  • Developing, implementing and reviewing H&S policies and procedures and plans
  • Ensuring hazard registers are maintained on a regular basis and that controls remain valid
  • Preparing agendas & chairing H&S committee meetings
  • Preparing HSE related reports for management meetings
  • Coordinating drug & alcohol testing and management of processes where non-negative results are received
  • Carrying out HSNO, H&S, Environmental and quality system audits
  • Coordinating the maintenance of a document control system in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2016
  • Liaising with external bodies: MPI, District council, WorkSafe NZ and ACC etc. when necessary

To be considered for this role you will have proven experience in a related environment and/or role with a strong interest in health and safety or a relevant tertiary qualification.  You will additionally have;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including excel
  • Strengths across compliance, regulatory, auditing, 
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • The ability to self-manage and organise work to meet deadlines
